Dressing For Your Portrait Session: 10 Things to Consider
One of the first things you think about when you decide to sit for a portrait session, is what you should wear.
This is so natural, as you (naturally) want to look your best in your images as you intend to keep them for a very long time. And of course, who wants to look at images of themselves year in, year out in which you do not look your best.
With that said, the question then becomes, how should you dress for your portrait sitting?
Here are a few tips to consider:
Choose clothes that are comfortable and flatter your figure.
Wear makeup that you would normally wear without the excess.
If you are comfortable in heels wear them. Heels give the body a slimming look and add height to a full-length portrait.
With that said, if you are not comfortable in heels, leave them alone and wear your most comfortable shoes. Not all photographs show your feet, and you can have great photographs without them.
Cut or trim hair at least a week before to give yourself time to get accustomed to the new cut.
Wear your favorite hairstyle, the one you think frames your face the best.
Wax facial, leg, and chest hair at least a week before being photographed so any blotching on the skin from hair removal will have time to heal.
Wear your best accessories. Accessories could have a dramatic impact on an outfit so there's no harm wearing your best. Just make sure they complement your outfit rather than distract.
For light portraits wear light clothes like peaches, baby blues and pinks.
For long-lasting portraits, wear something formal like you would wear to a dinner or a wedding.
